The event ‘How To Deal With Anti-Social Tenants Effectively’ is for private landlords, registered social landlords, letting agents, housing officers, tenancy support officers, anti-social behaviour team managers and officers, and social housing tenancy advisors.
Speakers from South Gloucestershire Council’s anti-social behaviour team and housing and benefits, the police, legal profession and Merlin Housing Society will provide the latest information on the following topics:
• Cannabis factories (police)
• Housing anti-social behaviour powers
• Early intervention vs enforcement
• Evidence gathering and applying the law
• Best practice examples of partnership working
The conference is part of a two-year housing benefit sanction pilot, running in eight local authorities including South Gloucestershire.
Despite the increase in support available to households with problems, the pilot scheme has been implemented to target households directly responsible for anti-social behaviour who refuse to seek help.
Philippa Isbell, anti-social behaviour manager from Safer South Gloucestershire, said: “A small number of households are typically responsible for a high proportion of anti-social behaviour which impacts on whole communities.
“In South Gloucestershire, we focus on nipping anti-social behaviour in the bud through early intervention work, such as acceptable behaviour contracts, police reporting forms, warning letters, community projects and intensive work in hotspot areas.
“The conference will show all those who manage or let properties how we can make their lives, and the lives of the neighbours and communities affected by anti-social behaviour, much easier.
“They will discover that support is available to them and that working with us and our partners, they can help make communities safer and stronger.”
The conference takes place at Filton BAWA Club, Southmead Road, Filton between 10am and 4pm.
