South Gloucestershire Drug and Alcohol Services

Alcohol Counselling and Harm Reduction

South Gloucestershire Drug and Alcohol Services (SGDAS) offers free one-to-one counselling to service users across South Gloucestershire, at its Warmley and Yate treatment centres and a variety of other outreach venues.

This counselling uses short term brief intervention techniques and care plans are reviewed on a six weekly basis.  Care plans are based on individual need, for example some people may receive harm reduction advice whilst others are working towards abstinence from alcohol.

Other harm reduction support available includes:

Hepatitis Support

  • You can talk to your GP, health worker or SGDAS support worker about screening and vaccinations for Hepatitis B and you will be offered both.
  • They can also arrange screening for Hepatitis C and give you information on the benefits of acupuncture, how your diet can help, and advise you on other ways of reducing risks to your health.

Sexual health

  • For information on any sexual health issues or concerns, talk to your SGDAS worker, or contact the Milne Centre on 0117 928 3011.
