A week of action to kick crime and anti-social behaviour into touch starts today (Monday 26 November) with officers from Safer South Gloucestershire, the council, the Police and Avon Fire and Rescue taking part.
The Home Office led initiative is the last in a series of six events to take place during 2007, with previous weeks of action focusing on the areas of Filton, Kingswood, Cadbury Heath, Yate and Patchway.
John Kelly, head of Safer South Gloucestershire Community Safety and Drugs Partnership, said: “The week of action events organised this year have been extremely successful and well attended by residents, traders and other members of the community and we hope this enthusiasm will be extended to Hanham this week.”
Executive member for community services, Cllr Heather Goddard, who is also the ward member for Hanham, said: “I would urge members of the community to come out and support this excellent initiative. It is vital for people who live or work in this area to have a voice on what local issues are a cause for concern as their views can be shared directly with the many partner agencies who are working tirelessly to make this event a success and improve quality of life.”
Key events running from Monday 26 November to Friday 30 November include:
· Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), officers from Avon Fire & Rescue Service and Merlin Housing Society carrying out visits specifically aimed at reassuring vulnerable members of the community (Tuesday 27 November)
· A street briefing at 6pm on Wednesday 28 November at Hanham Common where residents can air any concerns they have about their local area to the police and other agencies
· Representatives from relevant agencies will be available for advice and information on stands at Hanham Folk Centre throughout Thursday 29 November
· A vehicle amnesty runs all week, as well as DVLA presence
· Parking services team patrolling local schools and high visibility police patrols in the Hanham area
