Community Support
Safer South Gloucestershire works within your communities to help raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and to support them in tackling drug and alcohol related problems. We also support the Police in reducing the availability of drugs in the community.
If you find a syringe or needle
- The Street Care scheme is available for the free collection of discarded syringes and needles. Mapping information on the scheme is now passed to the Police to enable them to address local drug activity.
- If you come across a syringe or needle anywhere in South Gloucestershire, call 01454 868000 straight away. Please make sure you DON'T touch it, hide it, put it in any kind of bin or toilet or kick it out of sight or down a drain.
- If you sustain a needle injury, contact your GP or local Accident and Emergency department immediately.
- South Gloucestershire Council's Street Care department, the Police and proactive outreach services work together to ensure that all drug related litter is reported and services are provided to affected areas to work with drug users. Training is given to Street Care operatives in the safe handling of sharps and other drug related paraphernalia.
Training
- Within Safer South Gloucestershire, we believe that providing free, high quality training is a key factor in achieving our main aims. To help individuals and communities to improve their safety and well-being throughout South Gloucestershire, we work in partnership to make our community safer from the effects of crime, disorder and misuse of drugs and alcohol.
- See our Training pages for details of the courses available.
