GP Prescribing

Your GP may suggest that you are prescribed Methadone or another opiate replacement to help you reduce heroin use.

GPs who are part of the Shared Care scheme in South Gloucestershire work in partnership with SGDAS to support people who are on substitute prescribing programmes.

A care plan will be agreed between you, your SGDAS worker and GP according to your individual needs and circumstances.  Some people are on maintenance programmes and others are on reduction programmes.  It all depends on where you are at with your process of change.

If your GP is not part of South Gloucestershire's shared care scheme, you can still access a substitute prescribing service through South Gloucestershire Drug and Alcohol Services.  Call 0800 0733 011 (free from a landline or callbox) or 01454 868750 for more information.
