Further to South Gloucestershire Council’s budget pledge in February to invest in and improve CCTV monitoring over the next three years, six cameras have been placed at key high street locations outside shops, cash-points and public houses.
John Kelly, head of Safer South Gloucestershire Community Safety and Drugs Partnership, said: “This is part of our on-going commitment to install effective CCTV systems in all South Gloucestershire town centres.
“The council has also provided funding for a dedicated CCTV coordinator post in order to drive this important agenda.”
The cameras include full pan, tilt and zoom functionality and offers 24 hour recording, seven days a week.
Hanham councillors Heather and John Goddard will be taking part in a walk-through of the system and the people responsible for designing it, Select Electrics, will officially hand it over.
Cllr Heather Goddard, said: “The cameras have been installed after the Hanham Regeneration Partnership which consists of local traders and residents and the Safer and Stronger Group identified a need for them.
"This initiative was supported by local councillors and the parish council. “Hanham remains a safe place to live and to visit but anything which can make people feel safe and be safe is to applauded."
