South Gloucestershire Council launched their new state of the art CCTV system using Fibre Optic Technology in September 2009. We currently have 44 Cameras across the area and these are all monitored and recorded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The cameras are installed in Kingswood, Staple Hill, Thornbury, Chipping Sodbury, Filton, Hanham and Cadbury Heath. We also have a number of deployable cameras which we use to tackle crime and Anti-Social Behaviour in targeted locations.
The number of incidents captured on CCTV are as follows:
Oct-Dec 2009: 482
Jan-Mar: 511
Apr-Jun: 466
These figures are incidents ranging from minor thefts, drug use, Anti-Social Behaviour, assaults and criminal damage to community safety issues and care of the elderly and vulnerable in our town centres and outlying areas.
Since launching our new system in September 2009, we have recorded over 1400 incidents. We currently have over 70 confirmed arrests and convictions where CCTV evidence was used since the new system was launched. These range from public safety incidents, missing persons and crime related incidents.
