Kingswood Week of Action -26 August 2008

Residents and workers in Kingswood are to benefit from a week of action to help reduce incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour.

Safer South Gloucestershire is joining forces with partners in the police, Avon Fire and Rescue and a number of council officers to tackle the causes of crime and anti-social behaviour.

The week of action runs from Tuesday 26 August to Friday 29 August.

A main focus of this year’s event is the environmental action day organised by the council’s street care team, which takes place on Thursday, and includes a clean up operation provided by street cleansing patrols.

Also taking place on Thursday will be:

• Multi-agency presence in Kingswood town centre featuring information pods in the shopping centre

• Handy Van Man scheme to visit properties to give advice on security improvements

• Patrols and monitoring by parking services

Police officers and PCSOs will be maintaining high-visibility patrols across the area throughout the week, and multi-agency visits to local businesses are also planned to reassure them about the work being done to tackle criminal damage and anti-social behaviour and the support available to them.

Philippa Isbell, Safer South Gloucestershire’s anti-social behaviour manager, said: “The Kingswood Week of Action will highlight the work of the partnership agencies to tackle local problems and issues. It is hoped that we can build upon recent similar events in Kingswood and get to the heart of the issues that matter most to residents.”

Chief Inspector Tim Harris said: “This week of action will focus on joint agency activity in areas where there are increased reports of crime and disorder. The message to local residents is we are here to support you.”

The police and Safer South Gloucestershire rely heavily on the local community to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour or crime.
Please call them in confidence on 0845 456 7000 (Police non-emergency) or 01454 868582 (Safer South Gloucestershire) if you are experiencing any problems.
