What is it?
The South Gloucestershire Local Area Agreement is a contract that sets the priorities for a local area. It has been agreed by central government, South Gloucestershire Council, other organisations like the Police and the community itself. It will lead to better sharing of resources and enhanced joint action by statutory and voluntary partners and the community to tackle issues of concern.
How long will it last?
The Local Area Agreement (LAA) for South Gloucestershire will last from April 2006 to April 2009.

What is the Safer and Stronger Communities Block aiming to achieve?
The Safer and Stronger Communities Block of the LAA has 6 aims:
1. To reduce crime, harm caused by illegal drugs & alcohol, reducing the fear of crime, anti-social behaviour, improve safety in homes and public spaces
2. To empower local people to have a greater voice and influence over local decision making
3. To improve the quality of life for those people and communities in greatest need through targeted service delivery
4. Maintain and improve local environmental quality and use the natural and historic environment to deliver stronger, safer and healthier communities
5. To plan and deliver a high quality environment in new development to create vibrant new communities
6. Provide more affordable homes
How will I know if it’s worked?
Targets in each aim will measure the performance of the various organisations involved with the Local Strategic Partnership. The Government Office for the South West will work with Safer South Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire Council, statutory bodies and the community & voluntary sector to successfully implement it for the benefit of everyone in South Gloucestershire.
