The event has been organised by Safer South Gloucestershire in line with its policy for tackling crime and disorder, particularly around the night-time economy – late night entertainment districts with pubs and clubs.
It will take place at Cleve Rugby Club, Mangotsfield from 10am to 3pm and licensees will be given the opportunity to have their say on the important issues that affect them.
They will learn how the police and Safer South Gloucestershire can support them in tackling crime and disorder, how they will be expected to meet the requirements of future changes in legislation and advice on preparing for licensing enforcement visits.
Ian Bowen, violent crime coordinator for Safer South Gloucestershire, said: “We would strongly encourage all licensees of pubs within South Gloucestershire to work with us in partnership to reduce alcohol-related crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.”
A packed agenda will include:
• Background information on alcohol-related crime and disorder
• The benefits of Pub Watch schemes and the ‘Three Strikes’ initiative
• A debate on the successes and challenges of the Licensing Act within South Gloucestershire
• An explanation of what is expected of pubs at joint licensing enforcement visits
• Advanced information on the Violent Crime Reduction Act and Noise at Work Regulation
• An open forum for questions to the police, as well as the council’s Licensing, Trading Standards and Environmental Health departments
Chief Inspector Tim Harris said: “I have many years’ experience working in and around the night-time economy both here, and in Bath. The current drinking culture leaves a lot to be desired, however it is through these partnerships that real changes and improvements can be made to make the people of South Gloucestershire be safe and feel safe when out in our town centres of an evening.”
