Taxi marshals will work on Fridays and Saturdays between 11pm and 3am to:
Help prevent incidents of anti-social behaviour and assault associated with the evening and night time economy
Safeguard the welfare of vulnerable customers
Maintain good order/ conduct within the rank
Provide general security to Taxi drivers
Prevent unlicensed/ illegal taxis from operating on the rank
Reduce the fear of crime for late night visitors to the area and local residents alike.
Ian Bowen, violent crime coordinator for Safer South Gloucestershire, said: “We are pleased to be involved with the introduction of taxi marshals in the Kingswood area. The value of employing marshals to challenge and overcome some of the more negative aspects of the evening and night time economy is well documented in other parts of the country.
“In Kingswood, our marshals will positively manage the taxi ranks and work towards the safety of customers and drivers alike. They will endeavour to safeguard our most vulnerable passengers and create a safe and happy environment where fear of crime is at a minimum. The firm that we will be contracting to provide this service are experts in their field with many years of experience working in Bristol, Bath and Weston-Super-Mare.”
The meeting takes place in the Council Chamber, Kingswood Civic Centre on Thursday 3 April at 7pm.
Marshals are due to start on April 18th.
