The aims of courses are to:
Raise participants' awareness of Domestic Violence
Improve agencies “point of contact” response to those reporting Domestic Violence
Provide information on raising the issue of Domestic Violence with victims
To examine the impact of Domestic Violence on children
Over the course of the one day introductory training day, we intend:
To provide a definition of, and background statistics in relation to, Domestic Violence
To assist in identifying Domestic Violence
To gain an understanding of the barriers to leaving abusive relationships
To provide a directory of services within South Gloucestershire so as to signpost service users towards appropriate support mechanisms
To gain an understanding of the wider impact of Domestic Violence on children
To assist participants in raising the issues of Domestic Violence with women
To examine how to carry out risk assessments in relation to Domestic Violence and to provide advice on information sharing protocols between agencies

Over the two day Domestic Violence and child protection course, we intend:
- To provide a definition and background statistics in relation to Domestic Violence
- To provide a definition and background statistics in relation to Child Abuse
- To examine the impact of Domestic Violence on children
- To assist participants in identifying violence/ abuse
- To consider strategies for engaging with and assisting children and women where there are, or may be, issues of Domestic Violence
- To consider strategies for communicating with both children and adults in a sensitive manner in relation to Domestic Violence
- To recognise the importance of working with both children and adults in developing safety plans
- To gain a survivors perspective on Domestic Violence
- To provide information on the Police response to Domestic Violence

Refreshments will be available throughout the day, with a 45 minute lunch break around 12.30
The session will include presentations from Survive and the Primary Care Trust.
The course will take the form of whole group learning interspersed with a number of small group activities.
