Week of Action to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Filton - 20 April 2007

Life should be getting better for everyone who lives or works in Filton next week.

Police and Safer South Gloucestershire will be working with other partners on a week of action, cracking down on crime, anti-social behaviour, and nuisance while providing home safety checks and security advice to the most vulnerable.

The week of action runs from Monday April 23 to Sunday April 29 2007.

During the week:
• CCTV cameras will be deployed in crime and anti-social behaviour hotspots
• Safer South Gloucestershire anti-social behaviour team and police neighbourhood beat managers will visit local traders to offer advice and support in dealing with nuisance issues
• the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline, 0800 555 111, will be promoted as a way for people to pass on information about crime, anti-social behaviour and nuisance
• the Fire and Rescue Service will carry out home safety checks during the week and residents will be able to request a visit
• The council-run Handy Van and police Bobby Vans will be working in the area, helping vulnerable people secure their homes
• Police Community Support Officers will be visiting local schools and colleges to explain the issues around anti-social behaviour and hand out leaflets
• Trading Standards will be running a test purchase operation to clamp down on the purchase of alcohol by and for under 18s
• Police officers and PCSOs will be maintaining high-visibility patrols across the area
• The recently imposed dispersal order for Filton will be strictly enforced

Filton Neighbourhood sergeant Kevin Thatcher said: "We welcome this opportunity to work with all our partners to pro-actively deal with the sort of anti-social behaviour, nuisance and quality of life issues that can have such a negative impact on us all.

"This week of action is part of our ongoing campaign, working with Safer South Gloucestershire, to make Filton safer for everyone."

Andy Hichens, senior Community Safety Officer for Safer South Gloucestershire Community Safety and Drugs Partnership, said: "This action week serves as a powerful tool to raise awareness of the work we do in partnership with the police and other agencies to tackle criminal damage and anti-social behaviour.

"It underpins our ongoing work to deal effectively with perpetrators, support the local community and build and safer, stronger Filton in which residents can enjoy an improved quality of life."

The police and Safer South Gloucestershire rely heavily on the local community to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour or crime.
